Green Rodent Control Solutions
Pest management is a complicated process, and many pest control companies struggle with striking a balance between eliminating pests and not leaving a lasting negative impact on the surrounding environment. Not Cura Termite & Pest Control.
Cura Pest & Termite Control utilizes green services and organic products in our pest management programs. Adhering to the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), technicians at Cura make use of only the safest and least-harmful methods when it comes to pest management. This ensures that not only are we able to create a lasting barrier around your home against pest infestations, but also that this never comes at the expense of your family, pets, or any other plants or animals in the area other than the specific pests we’re treating for.
For rodents, this means carefully identifying the problem prior to treatment, using baits before pesticides, and monitoring the targetted pest carefully to ensure that we only go as far as necessary. For you, it means maintaining a happy, healthy home with the peace of mind that nothing else has come to harm in the process.
Types Of Rodents In Southern California
While there are dozens or rodent species in our area, the three most common household invaders we see in southern California are the roof rat, the Norway rat, and the house mouse. Each of these pests brings unique problems with them into homes they invade, so let’s take a look at each one individually to help you understand what you’re up against.

Roof Rats
Roof rats are dark brown or black in coloration with some lighter gray coloration on their underbellies. They typically range about 6-8 inches in length, with thin, agile bodies that allow them to easily climb trees and gain access to the roof, hence their name. Roof rats have a pointed nose, large ears, and large dark-colored eyes. Of the two rat species, roof rats are typically smaller than Norway rats.

Norway Rats
Norway rats are brownish in coloration, with heavier bodies that typically extend about 16 inches long from nose to tail. Norway rats have a blunt nose, protruding small black eyes, small ears, and a two-colored tail. They are stouter than the average Roof rat, and use their abilities in different ways: while Roof rats are excellent climbers, Norway rats are strong swimmers, and it is this skill that allows them to get into homes through waterways. For this reason, these rats are most often found in the basements and the first floors of homes and businesses they infest.

House Mice
Smaller than any rat, the common house mouse typically measures no longer than 2.5 - 4 inches long. They can be identified by their smaller, slender bodies, long tails, large ears, and small dark beady eyes. Their body is typically a bit shorter in length than their tail. Their fur can vary in color from grayish-brown to dark gray or black in color; they have a lighter colored underbelly that is usually tan or whitish in color. However, while smaller than rats, mice are no less destructive and dangerous.
Why Professional Rodent Treatment In Southern California Is Worth It
Whether it’s roof rats, Norway rats, or house mice, rodents bring all sorts of problems inside with them. They carry numerous diseases, including but not limited to:
- Hantavirus
- Leptospirosis
- lymphocytic choriomeningitis (LCMV)
- Tularemia
- Salmonella
- Parasites
- And more!
If these direct health threats weren’t enough, there’s also the fact that rodent teeth never stop growing, causing them to constantly gnaw on anything they can find to wear them down. Over time, this leads to them gnawing holes all over your home, leading to water damage, fire hazards, and a host of other problems.
When it comes to rodents, their quick reproductive rate and ability to access almost any part of your house make them almost impossible to eliminate for homeowners working on their own. If you want your rodent problem eliminated quickly and permanently, the only solution is to call the pros for help.
Cura Termite & Pest Management offers extensive rodent exclusion services that bring the perfect mix of effectiveness and safety, ensuring a thorough treatment that eliminates the problem today while preventing them from returning tomorrow. Contact us today for more information!
